About the Freelance Foodie
Food has always been in my blood, my grandparents ran a traditional bakery and I grew up in the familys catering business, helping lay tables and fold serviettes from the age of 6!
After many years organising financial conferences for City traders (one of my favourite parts of the job was selecting the hotels and menus) I decided to move to the Country along with my extensive foodie book collection!
Influenced by Carl Honores book In Praise of Slow I relocated to rural North Northumberland and am actively involved in the Slow Food campaign to promote food that is good, honest, local and fair. I am now Co-Leader of the Berwick Slow Food Group and help to organise the annual Food Festival in Berwick upon Tweed.
When I first moved North, I worked for a small local producer so I am uniquely placed to know about the highs and lows of making artisan food. My interest in food also extends to using food as medicine. I hold qualifications in aromatherapy and have a deep understanding of plant based therapies. In particular, I am interested in what we can do to live life to the full and in good health as we age so that we can enjoy every step of life. I am also interested in spiritual nourishment and attend the local URC church and am involved in its very vibrant programme of events. Currently studying thoeology, my interests are now taking in a range of topics from new monastic communities to buddhism and meditation!
